Guest Author Dave Basher
The start of December was quite cool weather wise but mid December brought some quite heavy rain and ideal fishing conditions for the time of year, unfortunately catch returns were a little thin on the ground but those that persevered had some nice rewards. Rupert Morrell continued his run of success into December with two more doubles to 12lb this time maggot feeder in the top weir compound was the winning method. Leigh Hayward had a lovely 12lb 3oz barbell from the waters meet area his successful method was maggot feeder with a little and often approach.
Royalty regular Les Dwight ventured onto the banks on one of the milder days and was handsomely rewarded with a 10lber caught on his usual rolling meat method.
Barbel fanatic Trefor West had a great couple of days sport roaming around the fishery and bagged 4 Barbel including 2 doubles of 11lb 2oz and 12lb 12oz Tefors' fish were all caught on luncheon meat and the 12lber was his 437th double figure Barbel .
Roger o malley caught himself a new pb Barbel of 11lb 14oz from the Trammels area, his successful method was legered spicy tuna and sweet chilli boillie.
There was also some pretty large Pike caught through December With Shaun Miller finally getting amongst them, Shaun had 2 23lbers the biggest weighing in at 23lb 10oz a right result for the most dedicated of the royalty pike anglers. Marcus Alexander used Herring dead bait in the Top weir compound for a lovely 22lber, and Mr Coxon from Oxford fishing the Royalty for the first time in 25 years caught himself a nice pike of 16lb.
The biggest Pike caught in December however was caught by a five year old lad under the expert guidance of the Royalty keepers and weighed in at an awesome 30lb 7oz. What a fish and what a result for the young aspiring angler.
