Monday 23/9/02: Heaviest Barbel of Season!
Not as many fish reported this week but the first 13lb barbel of the season has been caught by visiting angler Dave Andrew and 79 year old CAC member Alf Walton caught the first barbel of his 70 years angling career - an amazing 12lb 4oz! (until Thursday the joint biggest from the fishery this season). As usual for this time of year the Royalty barbel are packing on weight so it is surely just a matter of time before more 13lb+ fish are reported on this page. However, the river is again very low and clear so what we need is more rain. Best catches during the week include....
Monday 23/9/02:
Dave Andrew from Harlow, Essex - 13lb 0oz barbel - the biggest from the Royalty this season, from Brewhouse Hole on legered meat;
Dr Jeremy Dearlove and Jim Townsend from Durham had a memorable day in the Parlour Pool on their first ever trip to the Avon - at 10lb 10oz Jeremy caught his first ever "double" (from the west bank at the top of the pool) on double casters over a hemp and caster mix. Jim failed to tempt the barbel but caught a 6lb 0oz chub from the "Garden" swim on the east bank on swimfed maggot. Needless to say both are now Avon converts and will be back for more!
Sunday 22/9/02:
Bream to 8lb 8oz

on caster over caster & hemp (Mike's 4th Royalty "double" of
the season).
Monday 16/9/02: Royalty Back on Form!
As predicted the fishing is much improved after last week's flush of fresh water with lots of double figure barbel being reported together with several specimen chub, carp and bream. Now that the river has fined off again, particle baits are accounting for most of the fish and some more rain would not go amiss. Best catches during the week include....

Monday 9/9/02: Rain at Last!
A nice drop of rain today and hopefully some more tomorrow should bring the Fishery back on form. Low, clear water conditions have made the fishing difficult everywhere but the Royalty has still returned some good catches including....
