   New for 2008 - Hardy Conquest Centrepin Reels

The new Conquest heralds the return of centrepin making for Hardy.  There are two superb models (4 inch or 4.5 inch) of the Conquest, both available in either a silver or black hard anodised finish. This groundbreaking new reel is made from the highest quality bar stock aluminium, with a unique multi-handle and a double-ratchet mechanism. 

Designed around a gyroscopic inertia principle also makes the Conquest perfectly free running. A super smooth running reel, with incredible lightness due to the beautifully perforated bodies. These reels can handle everything from running light stick floats down slow moving rivers, to controlling big, fast water river floats like chubbers and Avons. They won’t be out of place on stillwaters either, where these classic centrepins are ideal for close range tench, bream and carp tactics. Designed to match perfectly with Marksman rods.

At approximately 3½in diameter, this special wide drum side-casting reel was designed (and improved) by Ray Walton for trundling luncheon meat for barbel, but is also ideal for trotting and stalking other species when used in the traditional way. The reel can be rotated through 90° to facilitate easy casting over long distances unlike a traditional pin. In this position the spool is facing to the front thus allowing the Rolling Pin to be cast in a similar manner to a fixed spool reel and then returned to the standard pin position for fishing. This is a top quality versatile and attractive reel with silver/gold anodised finish and engraved with a serial number. The key improvements over the Mk I are as follows:-

According to the manufacturer, 'It is hard to tell whether this is the perfect centre pin reel or rather a precision crafted work of art'. It certainly is a stunning reel at a great price. With 2 German HPB Stainless Ball Bearings it runs superbly on a stainless steel shaft. Both the frame and the spool are constructed from one piece machine cut aluminium to a traditional design.
