DORSET FORECAST
SHORE: Some cracking thin lipped grey mullet will be taken in the upper reaches of Poole harbour at Rockley mostly to the baited spoon method. Expect lots of thick and thin lipped mullet with bass, flounder, silver eel and a few coarse fish from Christchurch harbour when the river is in flood. Conger action along the Purbecks is pretty good with fish between 5-15lb mostly landed at night over high water. Day sessions on Swanage Pier will produce mackerel garfish, pollack and wrasse. As darkness falls expect pout, dogfish and the occasional ray. Expect plenty of wrasse while legering at Hengistbury Head groyne with float tactics picking up garfish, pollack, mackerel and even trigger fish. A few bass will figure at first light. At night pout, rockling and a few sole can also be expected. A fair number of black bream will show from Bournemouth Pier along with small pollack, the odd bass, smoothhound and garfish. Bass, wrasse and mullet supply the action by day at Kimmeridge but as darkness falls expect dogfish, pout and some hefty conger eel. Bass will also show at dawn and dusk to lures or fly fishing tactics.
BOAT: Boats heading out from Poole can expect some brisk sport with wrasse, pollack, bream and conger active over inshore reefs. Mackerel catches from inshore marks will be excellent providing anglers with plenty of free fresh bait. Deep marks off Swanage will provide some quality ray, tope and smoothhound with a few porbeagle sharks expected south-west of St Albans. Christchurch ledge, Southbourne rough and Bollard will provide plenty of sport for smaller species as well as producing some very big conger eels. Ling, cod, conger eel and pollack will provide the mainstay of sport over wrecks where conger to 40lb will be taken and should be returned. Mackerel strip on a Pennel running leger rig will be the best method. Within the harbours, a few plaice will be taken from the deeper channels whilst ballan wrasse will show from the rocky sections. Bass will provide lively action in the entrances on spring tides.
