DORSET FORECAST

SHORE: Smoothhound will show on evening flood tides to crab and ragworm at Branksome. Some nice mullet are taken from Christchurch harbour with wrasse supplying lively action at Hengistbury Head to crab, the top bait. Mudeford Quay is a good bet for silver eel and bass. Marks along the Purbecks coastline will produce above average sport with wrasse and pollack by day mainly to ragworm from all the usual venues such as Lulworth, Worbarrow, Kimmeridge, Winspit, Seacombe, Hedbury, Dancing Ledge and Durlston. A flood tide will produce most fish. These are rough ground marks with a rotten bottom system recommended. As darkness falls conger, bull huss, ray and some decent bream can be expected. Winspit is often favoured during smaller tides but Broad Bench also offers some very good huss. Fresh mackerel will sort out the doggies and huss while squid often picks up the bream. Spider crabs can be a real pain. Expect plenty of bites from wrasse, rockling, bream, pollack and mackerel from Swanage Pier.

BOAT: Anglers will enjoy a variety of species from Poole where bream will now provide the mainstay of sport for inshore boats along with the odd plaice, bass, pouting, dogfish, pollack, gurnard, wrasse and ray. Inshore fishing over the rocky ledges off Old Harry to St Albans will provide great sport for specimen wrasse, conger, ray, bass and bream. Reef marks will produce some good blondes on squid baits to 20lb. Congers will also be active on the reef and inshore marks with fish to 70lb expected. Pollack, bass, ray and huss will also provide sport from the reefs off Poole. The mid-channel wrecks will fish well with boats returning over 200lb offish including ling to 18lb, pollack to 16lb and cod to 20lb. Uptiding will give the maximum sport from the smallest fish to the largest. Dingy anglers fishing within Poole harbour should pick up a few very big plaice along with flounder, silver eel and school bass. This is also the month when a few more cod start to join the ever present pollack. Channel Island trips will also see some good sport from the fast boats out of Poole.
