Royalty Game Report - 1st May

E-mail Print

After a difficult start to the salmon season when the few fish that were running seemed hell bent on getting upstream as fast as possible the Royalty has finally produced a salmon to one of the Season Rods.

On Wednesday, Fred Whitlock landed a fresh 15lb beauty from the bottom of Hayters. The successful fly was a Comet. This was first fish to be landed on the Royalty and goes some way to make up for those salmon which had been hooked but subsequently lost so far this season.

Hopefully now the 'duck' has been broken, a few more fish maybe landed successfully. Certainly a few more fish are being seen which has not been the case until last weekend.

No sea trout have been reported by the salmon rods as yet but Andy Johnson lost what was thought to be a large sea trout after a battle lasting over twenty minutes. This fish was hooked just above the Falls and proceed to lead Andy on a merry dance around the House Pool before shedding the hook.

A few good sized sea trout have been spotted in the Garden Pool as well as the odd one above the Waterloo Bridge but none have been reported as being caught from these pools as yet.
