Royalty Report 23rd – 29th June 2012-06-27

With the heavy rain and fast flowing water, the anglers who have braved onto the banks of the river have mostly been rewarded for their efforts. Static fishing was proving difficult in the heavy flow and the loose weed coming downstream, so rolling meat anglers lead the way with some fine reports of good fish and multiple catches from the fishery.

Whereas in the first week, many of the fish came from the top end of the fishery above the Watersmeet area, it would now seem that perhaps the increased flow and angling pressure has moved many of these fish on and catch reports are beginning to appear from up and down the fishery.Static anglers are still catching in slack water areas out of the main flow and are often finding baits lowered alongside the bank to be the most productive.

Whilst we are hearing of captures through word of mouth, we are sadly not always receiving details either directly to the tackle shop or via the email address of This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Paul Yates continued his rich vein of form from the first week and caught another two nice specimens on separate occasions whilst out rolling. The first fish that can be seen is his 8lb 10oz fish and the second a beautiful double weighing in at 11lb 9oz, both caught rolling meat. (2 x pictures of Paul)

One visiting angler who did extremely well during his stay in Christchurch was Barry Garwood. Barry decided to predominantly roll meat during his visit and was rewarded with multiple captures on most days and in fact the only day he didn’t catch was when he sadly felt too ill to fish.

Jim Maclannan also did extremely well on his visit, choosing to fish the point swim. Jim’s efforts were rewarded by him catching 3 Barbel, a fit and fighting 8lb 2oz fish and followed this up with two fine specimen doubles at 13lb 5oz and 10lb 12oz. (3 x pictures of Jim)
