Sea Fishing Predictions - October 2009

DORSET FORECAST - OCTOBER

SHORE: Chesil beach is one mark where anglers can expect to latch into some good fish including conger, dogfish, pollack, dab, pout, sole and even the odd turbot. Some good bags of codling can be expected with up to 15 fish in a single session. Abbotsbury and West Bexington are two marks worth a visit on the western end of the beach, while the Portland Cove end should also be profitable. Anglers fishing the Portland Rock marks will catch plenty of wrasse and pollack by day and conger at night. Pulpit Rock at the very end of the Bill is a very popular mark. The Purbeck rock and beach marks will all be producing a string of good fish with venues such as Durdle Door, Worbarrow Bay and Kimmeridge all high on the list for venues to produce big conger. The Door and Worbarrow will also throw up some good bull huss, pollack and ray with fresh pout or mackerel being far the best baits. Beaches to the east of Bournemouth such as Southbourne and Double Dykes will be good for sole, pout and 2lb+ flatties on night tides. Hengistbury Head groyne responds to float fished baits for pollack, bass and wrasse. Both piers at Bournemouth offer flatfish with the chance of a codling.

BOAT: Anglers fishing out of Weymouth can expect cracking sport with big conger, pollack, ray, ling, pout and dogfish from most marks. A fair number of cod to 15lb will be around for much of the year off Portland and there numbers should increase. The odd turbot will be landed from the Shambles and rays from the Lulworth bank. Conger, wrasse, pollack, pout, spurdog and the odd cod can be expected from most other marks. Anglers setting sail out of Poole should pick up good conger, pollack, ray, pout, dogfish and even a few codling. Good bass catches can also be expected for boats drifting through Peveril Race. Flounders will start to make their presence felt in Poole harbour with dinghy anglers taking most. Ragworm and peeler will be the telling baits. Lyme Regis and West Bay boats should get amongst the fish with pollack, conger, pout and ling expected from the wrecks.
